Global Rankings
by Efoil Racing League
The global efoiling community recognition of pushing the sport to the next level
What is the Global Ranking?
-
Efoil Racing League takes on the responsibility of reviewing all riders who are looking to challenge themselves and push the sport in a competitive direction. To become a top competitor, the objective is to attend and race in events globally.
Practice, race against the clock, head-to-head, and push yourself to climb to the top of the rankings.
The better you perform at each event, the more points you accumulate throughout the season.
-
This points-based ranking system is the foundation that allows us to collectively push the sport forward. As the sport grows, so does the quality of events, formats, rules, prizes, and competitor skill levels.
-
Everyone.
At our core, the Efoil Racing League has a rider-first philosophy. The ultimate goal is to create the best possible events, challenges, and eFoil festivals—experiences that can be enjoyed at every level.
We want to maximize enjoyment of the sport and add purpose to why we love to ride every day.
How are Rankings Calculated?
-
Based on a number of “rider first” criteria and merit any competitive eFoil event can be given a Tier. Events could have many criteria and they will be given a score.
The event score will be compared to a group of all other events in the calendar year or “ season”, and previous year benchmarks.
Some Event criteria is mandatory to hit certain Tiers. Other criteria are advised to have but not mandatory. -
Higher finishing positions earn higher points. Some events award more points than others depending on their Event Tier, explained in the next section.
For example, a Tier 1 event distributes 10,000 total points, shared among the top competitors (typically the top 16). All riders who compete in the event are still awarded baseline points for participation.
Scoring Components
Events can feature different formats, and some include multiple formats within a single competition. In these cases, results are combined to generate an overall event ranking.
Divisions are ranked separately. In some cases, riders (particularly women) may accumulate additional points by competing in multiple divisions within the same event.
All events include a qualification structure that allows accurate ranking beyond podium positions — typically ranking riders in groups such as 1,2–3,4, 5–8, 9–16, 17–32, and beyond.
Rankings take into account both time trials and event ladder results, allowing us to distinguish close placements fairly.
Climb the ladder, race your best, and keep your composure. During the 2025 season, riders who trained consistently, refined their skills, and managed risk effectively were rewarded with higher point totals.
Efoil Racing League also encourages organisers to design challenging race formats, while ensuring riders have sufficient practice time to learn the course and rules.
-
Organising, planning, and running successful events is difficult. We recognise and credit the organisers who take on the financial, logistical, and operational risks required to deliver high-quality competitions.
Their efforts form the foundation on which the sport continues to grow.
How Events Earn Points
Events are evaluated based on the quality they deliver to riders and the broader community. Factors include:
Participation and competition level
Fairness and governance
Safety standards
Logistics and resources
Media visibility and organisation
Value creation and sponsorship
Additional rider-focused considerations
Top-rated events receive higher tier classifications, which directly determine how many points are distributed to competitors.
Event Tiers
Tier 1: Excellent: 10,000 points
Tier 2: High Value: 8,000 points
Tier 3: Intermediate: 5,000 points
Tier 4: Developing: 3,000 points
Tier 5: Entry: 1,000 points
Eligibility Criteria
All events are eligible for grading and inclusion in the rankings calculator. At a minimum, events must:
Publicly publish event information
Provide a clear set of rules or regulations
Use a competition format that allows fair ranking
Collect accurate timing, race, or tournament data
Publish final rankings for all competitors
Events may be excluded if they are designed purely for marketing purposes, falsify results, or attempt to artificially create points for specific riders.
If you are aware of unfair practices or misconduct, please report it to us.
We also actively collect feedback from riders, organisers, and spectators. This feedback directly influences how events are evaluated and tiered. If your event is listed and you believe its tier does not accurately reflect its quality, we encourage you to contact us at info@efoilracingleague.com.
